Moncure Insurance Agency, Inc. is an independent insurance agency which offers property and casualty lines of insurance to its business and individual customers. Licensed in Virginia and North Carolina, they can customize insurance packages for home, auto, boat, business owners, workers compensation, life, health, and annuities.
The business started in 1932 as Bagby Insurance Agency and the name was later changed by new owner, Eustace C. Moncure. In 1966, W. Irby Moncure, Jr., CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) left John Hancock Life Insurance Company and joined his uncle in the business, which is now located at 203 South Main Street in Blackstone.
Irby’s daughter, Shirley Moncure Wilkins, CPCU (Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter) joined the firm in 1981 after graduating from University of Richmond’s E. Claiborne Robins School of Business. Shirley handles the life & health division and is Business Manager.
David Lee Wilkins, CIC(Certified Insurance Counselor) joined the firm in 1984 and serves as the president of the firm. Agent Mallory Tucci is the Commercial Lines Customer Service Representative, and agent Tara Martin is the Personal Lines Customer Service Representative in the Blackstone Office.
In 1992 Moncure Insurance Agency added a location in Crewe, Virginia. Their office at 117 East Carolina Avenue in Crewe is managed by agent Monica McGraw, and Hilda Barlow serves as receptionist.
